Files and system requirements

What you can upload, how big it can be, and what you need on your computer for the parts of Animanager that run outside the browser.

Attachments and media

Files you attach to a message, a comment or a revision, add to a canvas, or use as a picture for your profile, studio, project or space all follow the same rules.

KindTypesLargest file
ImagesJPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP20 MB
VideoMP4, MOV, WebM4 GB
AudioMP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, WebM, FLAC200 MB
DocumentsPDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RTF, TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, SRT and VTT subtitles100 MB
ArchivesZIP, 7z, RAR, VSIX100 MB
  • Up to 50 files at a time, with names of up to 255 characters.
  • These are never accepted: SVG, HTML, JavaScript, shell scripts, Windows programs, and files whose type can't be told.
  • Videos play in Review mode as you upload them: Animanager doesn't convert them. Use a format your browser plays, such as H.264 MP4.
  • Everything you upload counts toward the studio's storage, except profile pictures. See Plans, seats and storage.
  • Profile pictures and studio logos are made smaller in the browser before they upload.

Work files

Work files are the files of a stage that you publish with a revision. See Publish a revision.

  • Any type, unless the stage limits them. A stage can accept only some families: Blender, Photoshop, Houdini, DaVinci Resolve, text, tables, VSIX, video, audio, or an extension you choose.
  • From the browser: up to 512 MB per file and 1,000 files per upload.
  • With Desktop Helper: no practical limit. Large files go up in parts.
  • A .blend is published with Save for Animanager from Blender and Work files, not dropped in the message box. See Save in Blender and publish the revision.
  • Photoshop work files are .psd and .psb. A Photoshop stage can start from a blank .psd the Helper creates. See Photoshop files.
  • Downloading in the browser without Desktop Helper gets one file as it is, or a zip of up to 256 MB. See Work locally with Desktop Helper.

Data tables

A CSV attached to a revision shows as a table when it is:

  • UTF-8, with commas between columns;
  • up to 5 MB, 5,000 rows and 80 columns, with up to 10,000 characters in a cell.

Its optional schema file can be up to 512 KB. See Attach data tables and chart them.

Canvas

  • Add media takes images, video, audio and documents with the limits of Attachments and media.
  • 3D models show on the canvas when a generator makes them. You can't upload your own.
  • Reference images for a generator can be up to 25 MB each. How many a model takes depends on the model: its generator says so.
  • Cut a video into clips from 0.05 seconds to 30 minutes long.
  • Download up to 200 files at once as a zip.

See Generate images and video on the canvas.

  • A link lasts from 1 to 3,650 days, with an optional password of up to 256 characters.
  • A file share holds up to 10,000 files.

See Invite a client to review and Share files by link.

Video editor export

Exporting needs Desktop Helper. The result is always an MP4 (H.264 video, AAC stereo sound at 48 kHz), at 100%, 75%, 50% or 25% of the project size, with the quality High, Balanced or Compact. See Cut an edit in the video editor.

Render farm

  • Renders a .blend saved with Save for Animanager.
  • Writes PNG, OpenEXR, OpenEXR multilayer, JPEG, TIFF, Targa or BMP.
  • A job has up to 20,000 frames, in chunks of up to 1,000 frames and at most 5,000 chunks.
  • A render node needs the same Blender version the file was saved with, in any point release: a file saved in 4.2 renders on 4.2.3.
  • A node that runs out of disk space goes back to work when it has at least 2 GB free.
  • A node needs Desktop Helper, enrolled with a one-time code from the Farm. Nobody has to be signed in on it.
  • Blender versions a node doesn't have are downloaded from the studio's Asset Library, Software, Blender.

See Render on your own machines.

Desktop Helper

SystemsmacOS and Windows. The download in the app is for Macs with Apple silicon, and for 64-bit Windows (x64). There is no Linux version.
InstallOn Mac, a zip with the installer and a readme. It runs in the menu bar. On Windows, an installer for your user account only. It runs in the notification area.
ModuleThe studio needs the Files and helper module on.
BrowserThe browser must allow animanager.com to reach apps on this computer.
PortIt answers on this computer only, on port 46321. Another app using that port stops it from starting.
FoldersYour work goes in Animanager in your home folder, and you can choose another.
StartIt starts when you sign in to your computer, unless you turn off Start at login.
UpdatesOn Windows it updates itself. On Mac you install each new version.
DiskThe video editor keeps up to 20 GB of media in a cache. Downloaded input versions are removed after 30 days without use.

See Work locally with Desktop Helper and What's new for its current version.

Blender add-on

  • Blender 3.6 or later.
  • Needs Desktop Helper running on the same computer. It works with files inside a stage folder of the Helper.
  • Download it from the profile menu, Downloads, then Blender addon. It is animanager_save.zip, and you install it in Blender like any add-on. It shows as Animanager Pipeline in Blender's add-on list.
  • It updates itself from its panel, without restarting Blender.
  • In Blender 5.0 or later, Convert to Blender 5.x+ sets ACES color management. See Blender 5 color management.

See Save in Blender and publish the revision and The Blender add-on, panel by panel.

Photoshop

  • Photoshop work files (.psd, .psb) are published with Upload work files, like any work file, through Desktop Helper.
  • There is no Photoshop plugin to install yet.

AI agents (MCP)

  • Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, or another client that speaks MCP.
  • Desktop Helper 1.0.25 or later, installed and signed in: the connection runs through it, on macOS or Windows.

See Connect Claude, Codex or another MCP client and MCP tools.
