Notifications, sounds and badges

Animanager tells you about new messages in four ways: cards in the Feed, badges that count what you haven't read, sounds, and notifications from your browser for what is addressed to you. Animanager sends no email notifications.

What counts as a mention

A message mentions you when:

  • someone writes your name with @,
  • someone writes @everyone in a place you can open, or
  • someone replies to one of your messages.

@here points at a frame in Review mode and mentions nobody. See Add visual references.

Mentions are highlighted in the Feed, have their own Mentions tab, and always reach you, whatever you hide in Feed Settings.

Badges

WhereWhat it counts
A studio in the studio rail, on the left edgeRed: your unread mentions in that studio. Blue, without mentions: its unread messages.
Toggle Feed panel in the header, while the Feed is hiddenYour unread mentions, or your unread cards when you have no mentions.
All and Mentions at the top of the FeedYour unread cards, and your unread mentions.
The TreeUnread messages and mentions in each place. See Navigate Animanager.
Feed at the bottom of a phoneYour unread messages.

Badges stop at 99+. They update as messages arrive, without reloading.

Sounds

Choose which messages play a sound in Settings → My account → Notifications, under Sound notifications, then Save changes. On a phone, they are in the Settings tab under Sound Notifications, and save as you tick them. The choice is yours and the same in every studio. See Your account and preferences.

OptionWhen it playsSound
MessagesAny new messageA water drop
MentionsYour name with @, or a reply to youA bell
@everyoneA message to @everyoneA short fanfare
  • A sound plays only for messages your Feed Settings show. Mentions always play.
  • It also plays for messages in the conversation you are reading.
  • AI summaries and AI generations play no sound.
  • Browsers keep a page silent until you interact with it: after opening Animanager, sounds start once you click or press a key.

Notifications from your browser

Mentions, replies to you and @everyone also show as a notification of your computer, with the author's name, where the message was posted and the start of the message. Other messages, feedback and revisions don't: they go to the Feed.

  • Click the notification to go to Animanager, at that conversation.
  • While Animanager is open and in view, it shows them itself. When no Animanager tab is in front, your browser shows them, and on a phone they arrive like any other notification.
  • Animanager asks your browser for permission the first time you click or press a key in it. To turn them off later, change the notification permission of Animanager in your browser's site settings.
  • On a phone, Enable Desktop Notifications, in the Settings tab, asks for the permission when it hasn't been given.
